There have been changes in the teaching of the premier Sf Unit (EGL290 Science Fiction, Popular Literature and Cyberculture) at Murdoch University. Prof John Frodsham has had to retire from the unit due to poor health with seven teaching weeks still to go. I had taught the course (to be honest a different version of it) last year and am taking over next week.

10:53 pm - Hi All : Fantastic Planet : Kelleher's dogboy Joined Live journal as a means of keeping tabs on Fantastic Planet (Planetfantastic) Bookshop for the radio show and thought why not post as well. This is a kind of diary of a librarian(University)/Bookseller(Sf&F)/Broadcaster (FasterThanLight - weekly 1/2hr review programme on public radio in WA and australia wide).
Since FP have opened I've been in twice to ransack the stock a little too old or in too larger quantity for the new store that is on the cheapie tables. Picked up new a few choice items and found some others I felt ought to be in the Library (Murdoch University).
Today recorded an interview with Victor Kelleher about his new book 'dogboy' (Penguin(Aus),2005). published as a YA there is much here to delight the adult reader. The book is as much a fantastic retelling of the youth raised by animal(dog) story as well as the formation of a master shaman and has the touch of a master storyteller delighting in his material and appreciating the cultural threads that make the story not only possible but alive on the page. I was quite struck by the biblical resonances in the story and took the matter up with Victor for the interview.
Interview should be broadcast in WA on Monday Sept5th 10.30am RTRfm and Wednesday Sept7th on the CBAASatellite Service for station on-play or rebroadcast in the following week all over Australia.
